Amanda's Thanksgiving

Amanda (3rd grade's English assistant) celebrated her favorite holiday last weekend. Thanksgiving!!

She has a cousin that lives in Cambridge, England, so she traveled there to celebrate the big American holiday with her family. Thanksgiving is on the fourth Thursday of November. However, since there was no holiday in Europe, they decided to have their dinner on Saturday.

Five of the dinner guests were American, but there was one British person as well. It was his first time to celebrate Thanksgiving and he was excited to try some of the traditional dishes! Let's see all that they ate...

Turkey (Amanda is a vegetarian, so she didn't have any. But her cousins and other guests enjoyed the traditional Thanksgiving meat. This year it was cooked with an orange glaze).

Mashed Potatoes (cooked and blended potatoes served with butter)

Green Bean Casserole (green beans with a mushroom sauce served with fried onions on top) *In the photo, there are two green bean casseroles because the top one has bacon.. and Amanda doesn't eat bacon. So there was a vegetarian option.

Stuffing (bread pieces soaked in vegetable broth and spices, then baked)

Sweet Potato Casserole (sweet potatoes blended served with a brown sugar and pecan topping. Half of the casserole has marshmellows on top for extra sweetness). *Shown in top right of photo below.

Cranberry Sauce (cooked cranberries with sugar or honey or maple syrup - serve cold)

5 Pies: Apple Pie, Coconut Pie, Chocolate Pie, Lemon Meringue, Pumpkin-Apple-Pecan Streusel.

This is a photo of Amanda's plate! She ate it ALL!
(The sauce on top of the stuffing and mashed potatoes is gravy. The round bread on top is a homemade roll).

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Until next year...
